Modern US wellness brand The Well has opened a wellness sanctuary at Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection, in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Named The Well at Chileno Bay, the facility looks out across the shores of the Sea of Cortés and marks The Well’s first West Coast and second international location.

Inspired by the rich healing traditions of Baja California, the new opening joins the brand’s existing portfolio of properties in partnership with Auberge Resorts Collections in Costa Rica and Connecticut, as well as its flagship New York destination.

In an exclusive interview with Spa Business, The Well's VP of development Vivianne Garcia-Tunon said the brand has plans to open a second location in Central America, as well as properties in the UK and four more in the US [Florida, California, Texas and Colorado].

In keeping with The Well’s healing philosophy, the new Chileno Bay outpost has been designed to address the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of wellbeing.

Transformed by New York-based interior designer Nina Gotlieb, the wellness facility draws inspiration from the Baja’s clear blue sea and desert canyons.

“The Well at Chileno Bay is so special and stands alone in the depth and diversity of wellness experiences it offers guests,” says Sarrah Hallock, COO and co-founder of The Well.

“Everything from the tranquil rooms to the incredibly nourishing and delicious food to the exclusive wellness treatments and services harnesses the innate magic and healing power of Cabo.”

Customer journey
Each guest visiting the new space will have the opportunity to partake in a wellness journey named the Attunement Ritual.

Guests will be welcomed into the spa at The Arrival meditation lounge featuring two plush hanging beds wrapped in sheer linens and a floating fire that sits in between. With the backdrop of a zen garden with native plants and flowers, guests are encouraged to take time here to set an intention for their experience.

The ritual begins at The Bath House where guests use a variety of rituals and the senses to heal. This experience combines aromatherapy powered by local herbs, sound bathing, contrast therapy, fresh juices and nature immersion.

The journey ends with time for relaxation at The Nap Garden & Therapy Pool with a specially-designed pebbled floor to stimulate reflex points and calm the nervous system.

Living well
The retreat's launch at Chileno Bay has also added nine new wellness rooms to the accommodation opportunities at Auberge Resort.

Reflecting the resort’s open-air aesthetic, the rooms frame views of the ocean and tropical gardens through private terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows for indoor-outdoor living.

Upon arrival, a Shiatsu massage or aromatherapy foot soak will be provided for optimal post-travel recovery. As an added layer of luxury, The Well offers a personalised Turn Up service, offerings nutritious smoothies, a mindful movement set up with rising yoga sequence cards and an album of meditations.

After a busy day of activities, wellness room guests will also be able to rest with a therapeutic aloe bar, cooling cryo sticks by Biologique Recherche and The Well Relax Body Oil.

Additionally, guests’ in-room experience is elevated through a Well-approved room service menu that highlights ideal dining times and offers signature treatments as ‘desserts.’

To complete this suite of thoughtful touches, a specialised Turn Down service is also available. Guests can request nighttime room aromatherapy, a light therapy face mask, a yoga bolster, affirmation cards, a foot massage roller and meditation zafu.

A wellness playground
The dynamic treatment menu offers East-meets-West treatments, health coaching, seasonal retreats, a Visiting Masters programme and daily Mindful Movement classes.

The activity schedule ranges from Embody Yoga and meditation to water spinning and Complete – a signature class from The Well that blends strength training and yoga.

Other programming highlights include The Well’s signature treatment, called The Method. This five-step advanced bodywork method is said to help build a healthy body for a better range of motion, increased energy, healthy ageing and improved complexion.

The Well at Chileno Bay also delivers the spiritual Celestial Bathing experience – a spiritual therapy that layers ancient traditions with modern techniques. The journey starts with guests experiencing a fireside evening ritual, then floating in the serene outdoor pool looking up at the moon and stars for a sensory biodynamic water treatment.

Exclusive programming
To mark the new launch, the Chileno Bay facility has introduced The Well Reset, a four-day programme designed by the brand’s chief medical officer, Frank Lipman, MD.

Available year-round, the retreat begins with a consultation with a health coach who’ll discuss guests’ wellness goals and preferences to help curate a personalised itinerary of custom treatments, movement programming and nutrition.
